Ultimate Guide For Blogger Speed Optimization & SEO (BlogSpot)

Who is going to wait or spend a few seconds for your site to load to read the content on your site, when your rival can show the same or better content in no time?

Is leaving your Free Blogging platform a solution for this?

CDN, can they increase your loading speed?

Yes, they can and moving your blog to a premium blogging platform can bring a lot of changes, but do you really need that?

Blogger is free, but it doesn’t lack quality. But who will wait for your site to load completely for more than two seconds? may be more than that?

Like we optimize WordPress blogs for fast loading, we can optimize Blogger blogs too!

But the difference is, we don’t have any plugins to do that for us. Everything should be done manually. And it requires your time and effort. But it worth the effort you take!

The post is written as per the request by Sahil. Hope this will help him to make his blog load fast.

[h]Avoid Using Many JavaScript[/h]

You can see the message to remove render blocking JavaScript when you do a speed test using any of the free online tools like GTMetrix or Google Page Speed Insights.

Render blocking JavaScript prevents the main content from loading until the JavaScripts loads completely. And the user has to wait for all other things on your site to load before they can read the content. So, it is better to avoid using many JavaScript.

JavaScript with less priority can be placed before closing </ body> tag. This ensures that the main content will load first and the JavaScript will be loaded only after the content loads completely.

So, the user can start reading soon after the content loads, and the JavaScript will loads while the user reads the content.

[h]Compress HTML, JS & CSS[/h]

Compressing the code can increase the page loading speed of your blogger blog. The increase in lines of code increases the loading time. So, compressing the code will decrease the number of lines of code and decreases the server load and increases the speed.

You can use this tool to compress the code. It’s not easy to work on a code that is compressed. And that is the reason why some bloggers stood away from compressing the code earlier. But now, you can revert it into the form which is easy to read using the Code Beautifier.

The compressor tool will autodetect the code you paste on it. So, you can directly paste the code you copy from your blog template to the HTML Compressor tool.

Click on Template -> Edit HTML -> Copy the code (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) -> Paste the copied code into the HTML Compressor.

[h]Template[/h]

blogger template

Use a fast loading template on your blog. A template that is poorly coded can affect the page loading speed. So, always use a good theme. There is no easy way to understand a poorly coded theme. Try some themes and use the best theme from it. Don’t use themes that are outdated.

You can download AMP templates here. You can buy premium Blogger themes if needed.

[h]Remove Quick Edit Button[/h]

These are quick edit buttons that you don’t use much but will increase requests. The increase in requests increases page load time. So, if you are not using this quick edit, you can remove it from the code.

<b:include name='quickedit'/>
<b:include data='post' name='postQuickEdit'/>

This code is added when automatically when you create a widget from the layout. So, by removing the code from your theme, you can decrease the number of requests, thereby increasing the page loading speed of the blog.

[h]Optimize Images[/h]

optimization

Optimize images means not just about the size of the image. If we consider the SEO part, an image should contain alt tags, proper image name, and few other things.

But when it comes to Speed optimization, we should not hurt the quality of the image to decrease its size. You should compress all images before uploading it to the Google Server. So, it will load faster when a reader opens your blog.

Some of the best tools for optimizing images are Optimzilla and Adobe Photoshop.

[h]Use Lazy Load Script for Blogger[/h]

Using Lazy Load script for blogger can considerably increase the page loading speed. It ensures that the content loads first and the images loads only after that. You can copy the code from here. And paste the code before closing the </head> tag.

[h]Avoid Using Many Ads[/h]

Limit the number of ads shown on pages. It increases the requests and affects the page loading speed.

Also, use the asynchronous code for ads on your site. Because this ensures the page loads completely before the ad starts to load creating a better experience for the readers of your site.

[h]Limit Number of Posts on the Homepage[/h]

Restrict the number of posts shown on the homepage. You can change that from the Layout. Click on Edit in Blog Post section, and there you can modify the number of posts.

Limiting the number of posts means, less size for the homepage and it makes the site load faster.

[h]Remove Widgets[/h]

Remove widgets that increase the page load and requests. Use widgets that are necessary. Use widgets like Recent posts, Popular posts, Subscribe, Pages, Categories, which are necessary for your blog.

[h]Remove Background Images[/h]

You can download Stock images for free and you can use it as a background image, which makes the blog great, but it will increase page loading time.

[h]Use CDN[/h]

You can use CDN to host your files for fast loading. There are free and paid CDNs. It makes the site load fast by serving the content from the server which is nearer to the reader.

CloudFlare is a free CDN Service.

[h]Analyze Your Blog Performance[/h]

You should not leave your blog after optimizing its speed. You should check the performance every month for whenever you get some time for that.

If you perform these things on your blogger blog, you will see an increase in loading speed. And these things won’t harm your theme or blog.
