How to Start your own Podcast (Completely Free)

Everyone should know what is a podcast since we are living in this Digital Era.

A podcast is a piece of audio content that is available to stream or download in the web.

Likewise, Everyone should know how to create a podcast.

If you are an influencer, content creator, if you are running a business or selling a product, then a podcast can help you reach your target audience more efficiently.

Definitely, you should learn how to start your own podcast and build an audience on iTunes, Google play music, Spotify, Soundcloud, or anything, if you are planning to grow your business, 2x or more,.

Here’s the workflow you should know before starting your first podcast.

1. IDEATE

Ideate!

You can’t just start a podcast if have a topic your mind.

You need a topic (and that’s important) and you should know about the topic in deep. So that you don’t need to search for words during the podcast. If you search for words between the podcast, your audience may run away from you.

The podcast should be continuous and you must not distract the listener.

All you need to do for a continuous and distraction-free podcast is,

  • take a note of important points that you want to talk in the podcast.
  • if you want to make the things clear, everything must be in an order.

Also, you should have a clear idea about the type of podcast. Is it an interview? A talk show? A group of people or just you or you and your friend and any others?

However, the podcast should be interactive to keep your listeners active.

And when can your listener’s expect your next podcast? Like you have a regular interval between your blog posts, make one for your podcasts also.

Before you publish your first podcast, make sure you have 2-3 more recorded podcast ready to publish for the audience.

I read a post about creating a podcast and I have found 2 podcast ideas and another 4 blog post ideas in it. So, when you read something of your interest or your niche, you can find topics for your podcast in it.

2. RECORD

If you have an idea, then record the podcast now.

Make sure you are in a distraction-free space when you start to record.

What all gears you need to record?

If you are a beginner, you don’t need to invest much in gears now. You can record your first podcast on your phone.

I am using Anchor app on Android to record my podcast. You can find me here.

Anchor app is available for Android and iOS devices. You can also directly publish the podcast to iTunes, Spotify, etc.

Audio-Technica is recommended mic for recording podcast and a Studio microphone windscreen for a better quality of the recording. And you can directly record sound to your computer using this device.

3. EDIT

If you have completed recording the podcast, now it’s time to edit it.

Definitely, there will be something in it to edit. Some parts should be removed, and some other parts should be re-recorded if needed.

So, how will you do that?

Audacity is a free audio editing tool that is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

You can also use other tools like Filmora Wondershare, Camtasia Studio, etc.

4. How to Distribute & Promote your Podcast

If you are ready with your podcast, now it’s the time to host it somewhere.

Like we host websites, you need to buy some hosting space for storing your podcast. If you don’t want to invest in storing your podcast, you can use Anchor.fm.

Anchor is the hosting platform I am using to store my podcasts.

Anchor is a free podcast hosting platform. You can record the podcast as segments and publish it when ready, also you can add background tracks from Spotify.

Subscribe to Creative Twenty

If you don’t like Anchor, you have many other online podcast hosting platforms. Some of them are free and some others are paid.

What do you need now?

You need to signup for some podcatchers.

When you publish a podcast on the hosting service you will get an RSS Feed URL, you have to share it on podcatchers like iTunes. If they accepted your request, your podcasts will be shared on it whenever you publish a new podcast. Similarly, you can share podcasts on other platforms also.
